Personal Statement

My name is Kirby Simon, and I am a rising senior at Grapevine High School (a 5A school in Texas). Despite always being a good runner and multi-faceted athlete (I currently play varsity basketball at my school as well as run), I didn't begin running at the competitive level until my sophomore year in high school. I made varsity in cross country and track my first year running as a sophomore. I made varsity again this year and, after battling a hamstring injury most of the season, finished second overall at our conference meet and helped my team repeat as conference champions in cross country. After fully recovering from my injury, I ran track in the spring and finished 3rd at the conference meet in the 3200 and 5th in the 1600. Now that it's summer, I am increasing my weekly mileage and preparing myself to have a successful senior season in both cross country and track.

It has always been my dream to be a college athlete, but scholastics is ultimately the most important aspect of my college experience. I am a student first and an athlete second, so I would like to go to a school where education is highly valued and I can get an excellent education while also being able to compete as a varsity athlete.

I am a competitive person and work extremely hard, both in the classroom and in running. Therefore, I am looking for a program where I can compete at the highest level possible along with my teammates and contribute to the success of the team, fostering a strong sense of team unity while also receiving an exemplary education.
