"Set your goals high, and don't stop until you get there"
-Bo Jackson
My name is Calvin Corbett, and ever since I can remember, this is the motto that I have lived by. My passion for track has fueled my greatest successes as an athlete. I live in the small town of Windom, TX, but my dreams are not small. I want to use track as a way to fund a bachelors degree in Information Technology, an aspiration of mine. So I throw myself into track. I practice every day after school, running through warm-ups and exercises that I learn from my coach Philip Reddrick. Four to five days a week, I drive almost two hours to practice in Plano, where I train. In the year of 2015, I ran a best time of 11.8. In 2016 I ran a best time of 11.31. Sadly in 2017 I got hurt. I pulled my hamstring three times that season. 2 different locations on the right and one spot on the left. Because I did not allow it to heal properly in between, I had to take longer to recover. This was especially scary, as I was a Junior. But I don't let setbacks get in my way. I recovered and started running summer track for no speed limit in plano. I spent half my summer recovering with the team and only ran 3 races. I’m starting indoor track in 2018 to better prepare me for this years outdoor season. I don't accept failure as an answer, and when I set goals, I accomplish them. Now, as a Senior, I am more than ever pushing towards my goal of pursuing a career in Technology, and as an athlete. But the real question is, what can I contribute to your team? I thrive in a team environment, and my skills as a leader and as a team player prove invaluable. With my current pace, I project that by the end of my senior year my time will be in the 10’s. With even more training, that number will continue to decrease. If you are looking for an accomplished, driven athlete, than I am the man for you.
