Personal Statement
I was on the track team in middle school and broke my school record for the mile, but I started high school focused on football. I came to summer practices ready to work and play hard. Not too far into the summer -- when we had spent a lot of football practice running -- the cross country/track coach came up to me, told me that he had noticed that I was always coming in first during team runs, and asked me to run for him. I was hesitant, telling him that I planned to play football. He was persistent, and I joined the cross country and then later the track team. As a freshman cross-country runner, I earned a spot on the seven-man varsity state team by decreasing my time by more than two minutes from the start of the season. In track, I decreased my time running the mile by nineteen seconds over the course of the season and ended the season with a 4:58 PR. I also wrestled during the winter sports season, making varsity and taking fourth individually at state, and I ended the academic year with all A's and one B. I am more than determined. And I know, I have not reached my peak or even close to it. I am determined to break the records set at my high school before I graduate. Once I have achieved that goal, I intend to break more records in college.
