Personal Statement
My name is Tyler Ratzman, and I first began running early on in Elementary school. At first when I ran, it was just talent and I wasn't putting a whole lot of hard work into my sport. As I got older, I realized other people's hard work had caught my talent. As a result, I've been training harder than ever. Every piece of my day is towards improving my running. Everything I eat, what I say, how I act, how I push myself is all to improve my running ability. Although it's cliche, I fully recognize the meaning behind "Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard". I've had a rather big physical obstacle that I've overcome as well. During my freshman and sophomore year of highschool I had terrible foot pains and was struggling to even jog. So in the Spring of my sophomore year I had X-rays done and found that I had a broken bone in my foot and needed surgery. Since then my foot has never felt better and I've recovered fully. My parents have had the biggest impact on my life. They keep me humble, honest, and take the best care of me and my needs. My parents introduced me to Christ at a young age and I am now a strong believer in God and this also influences how I act and what I say. Through running track and cross country, I've discovered within myself that there's always more and I can always push myself to be better and to improve myself whether that's academically or athletically. I've also recently become a captain for the Leander High School track and cross country team and helping other's push their limits and to make them feel welcome is my goal. My academic goal for high school is to keep all A's as well as get ahead on college credit!
