Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Kyler Friebele, and my love for pole vaulting and running races came the first time I began doing them as a sport. Through the years of participating in both of these sports, I have learned a lot about myself. I have learned about a new level of commitment that I hold. Pole-vaulting is an expensive sport. I had to come up with a way to buy my own poles and pay for private coaching. Two years ago, I started my own lawn business. I maintained eight to ten yards during my Junior and Senior year. During this time, I continued to be on the A-B Honor Roll and stay within the top 20% of my class. I was able to pay for four poles and my private coaching during those two years.
While I was in the company of my private coach, I realized that both of the sports might have influenced my life more than just participating in them. The coach saw my interest in watching the other vaulters and would include me in the conversations he had with them. Sometimes he would even ask for my opinion on how to “coach” them. For some of the kids, the choice of words I used helped them to master the technique. At that moment, was when I felt that Kinesiology could be the career for me. I love being able to help others find solutions to their problem(s) and seeing it make a difference for them. This current track season I coached my younger sister (8th grade) during her District meet in pole vaulting and she won first place. I want to use both my good and bad experiences to coach young people so they will become great human beings and athletes.
I would love to continue my commitment to both of these sports as an athlete and future coach by attending a college in my home state of Texas.
