Personal Statement

My name is Daniel Campos and I am a student-athlete. From as long as I can remember, I loved being outdoors and soaking up the sun. At the same time my nose was also always in a book. As I grew up and began to plays sport starting at the age of 12, I learned to balance the two. My family holds me to a high standard and gave me a great foundation to pursue anything I set my goals on. They overcame adversity like no other, and are my motivation for the classroom as well as the any course or track my spikes touch. My goals are high because I see the result of what handwork and dedication results in every single day as I come home from school. I aspire to excel in the courses I race on, the tracks I run on, and the classes I take. My dedication I learned from playing a range of sports from Football to Cross country taught me that anything worth achieving requires commitment. That only through failure is success possible. For that I also have my coach to thank. She taught me the valuable lesson that a man is defined more on the way they rise from their failures rather then their successes. My success in my Cross Country season as well as my Track season is due to my strong foundation. My support system. My motivation. My goal is to achieve a degree in college in Engineering while racking up miles and racing. Doing these two things that I have a passion for is what my goals for college include. What sets me apart from other recruits is my ambition to excel in those goals. That although they are quite feasible, I will never led up to do the absolute best I can in those two areas. To ace every taste, win every race, beat my time every single week I toe the line and hear the gun go off. My personality to achieve this and remain humble, to remember my roots and know why I got there to begin with is what sets me apart from other recruits. I was labeled captain my first year of cross country. That honor was given to me my first year of cross country and every year after few to my leadership characteristics. My personality has the ability to bring a team together, to be the changing factor from a team to a family. The changing factor from a dream. To a goal. From a dream. To a possibility. I am different from other people because I strive to make my mark in a way like no other, to pave a path rather than follow one. And to not only pave a new path, but rally a team to follow and accomplish something greater than ourselves.
