I was asked to run varsity track as a freshman and run all relays at that. A bit intimidating as I didn’t want to let the upperclassmen down. I went out and gave it all I had and it paid off. They kept me on the Relays usually the last leg. The experience strengthened me and drove me to do the best I was able in every race. Making it to regionals each and every year. Since then. That set in motion my continuing to run track each year. I’ve been blessed with great coaches and teammates. We all push one another to get better and faster with practice, practice and practice. I’ve been to regionals each year in 3 events. This year we won regionals as a team and qualified for state in many events as a team. Individually I qualified in the 200, my 100 and 200 relay team qualifyied also. Placing 2nd in the 200 at state was an experience of a lifetime. This year I kept telling myself I’m breaking that record! Each meet individually strived for better and as a team we did the same and kept on breaking school records. It’s a constant effort of refocusing each and every practice. Mentally believing you can and then go out and do just that. I’ve ran relays and long jumped over the last few years. This year I ran the 200 along with the relays. This next year I plan on focusing on the 100, 200, 400 relay, long jump, triple jump, high jump and wherever else my coach decides to put me in.
Running track in college I would expect my coaches to bring me to a whole new level of running and jumping. I want to get better and I am a quick learner striving to better myself and do my part on whatever team I’m part of. I am wanting to be a coach one day and hope my college experience will grow me as an athlete, person and potential coach to one day pay it all forward.
