Personal Statement
I was not planning on running in college at all. In fact, I was really looking forward to it. I thought that it would be nice to buckle down and just focus on my studies. Certainly, it would be nice to avoid injuries going forward. However, I had a most successful cross country season. Despite losing a lot of power as our seniors graduated, we were able to win states with the help of our new additions to the team. The success was important to me, but beyond that I realized that I loved my team. I was really going to miss that sense of being a part of a group that was united by a single goal: self-improvement. I co-captained the team that year and as the season finished, I realized that I wanted to continue to be a part of teams like that. Moreover, after three years of limited success due to injury, I was encouraged by a much more successful season and a genuine joy to be racing that I had not felt since my freshman year. Now, I am simply looking to explore my options to continue my running career through college.
