My name is Travien Tolbert and I am Senior at Mount Vernon High school (Class of 2020). My long term goals and aspirations is to become an architectural engineer. I have the opportunity once I graduate from college, to design and build my parents home. That to me would be the greatest accomplishment ever.
I have learned that it takes a lot of commitment to include having a great coach. They are there to help correct you, guide you on the right techniques and push you to become your best. Even though track has individual events, I believe being a good teammate is just as important. You are there to help push your fellow athletes to their best so they can achieve their goals as well as represent our school as a whole.
Being a military child is not easy. You settle into a new place every 3 years minimum, trying to get exposure as an athlete for track and field, but only to move again. You’re the new kid at your next school and you have to start all over getting coaches to see your potential. Every destination, meeting new friends, and then moving once more is a journey to say the least. It’s great to see new sites and buildings that were built years ago, but at the same time you want to be seen as an accomplished athlete.
I am in search of a college/university where I can succeed as a student athlete pursuing my degree.
