Personal Statement
Running has played an important role in my life. I started running in the fourth grade when I ran my first 5k. Running has always been an outlet for me in hard times. Whenever I need some time to think or to distract myself, I'll go for a run. Running throughout the years has taught me there is always a little more left to give, and the most improvement is made in the times that hurt the most.
My freshman year was when I started to become serious about cross country and track. I have been fortunate to have a very close-knit team for the past two years in which we have won two consecutive state championships for cross country. The team mentality of our team is one of the things about running I enjoy the most. It is always satisfying to see your team members growing as they work together in training and in races. I always try to include team members on group runs and let everyone know they are an important part of the team. This team has not only taught me the importance of leadership, commitment, and resilience but has created lasting bonds between my teammates and me. I want a college that is a strong fit for me academically where I can continue to pursue my running career at a higher level. My drive to be the best runner I can be, my strong character, and my leadership skills are why I believe I would be a strong addition to your team.
