Personal Statement
My goal for the 2013 season was to run at the state track meet. DONE! I qualified and ran in three events. I take great pride in representing my school through athletics. I first went to state as a sophomore, as part of a relay and it inspired me to keep running and improving myself as a student athlete.
This June I participated in the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico. It was fantastic to experience running in the sun and dry weather for a change. In July I attended the Complete Track and Field Camp held at Harvard University. I learned a lot of new things that will also improve my times and understanding of what it takes to compete in College.
Senior year has just begun and I have my sites set even higher. My goal is qualifying in four events at state and hope to finish in the top three in the 100 and 200. I was working all summer and will continue through the year focusing on my strength, power and explosion to get there. At Level 4 Seattle Crossfit I am doing Olympic weight lifting. Combining this with my track workouts and being trained by USATF Level II coach, and emerging elite coach, Mike Cunliffe, I know I can be great. With his help I plan on dropping my 100 time down to 10.6-10.7 during the 2014 season and getting that 200 well under 22. I have plans to compete Texas and California this winter.
After graduation, I will continue training in order to keep improving as I prepare for the transition to College. Ideally, I want to be a part of a very strong program. I love to compete and hope to surround myself with teammates who take the sport seriously. I want to work with coaches who can help me improve and be my best. Academically, I need to be at a school that will challenge me while opening the door to new experiences and ideas. I am a great student who knows how to budget my time in order to fit athletics and classwork in simultaneously.
While I love Seattle and the surrounding Pacific NW area, I am open to exploring a new city to call my home for the next 4 years.
