Personal Statement
Dreams, what are they? Hopes for the future I guess. My dream can be seen flying on the flagpole outside my bedroom window. The flag of my country, and right under it the Olympic flag wave in the wind, reminding me daily to dream big. Reality comes when I realize that I can’t wait for someone to drop my dream on my doorstep. I have to get out there and set goals, work hard and keep pushing through any adversity that may come my way. I am not a fan of the new age “everyone is a winner” philosophy. The truth is that if someone crosses the finish line ahead of you, you did not win.
A competitor is one who tries to win. I consider myself a competitor, not just a runner. My goal before each race starts is to win that race. Does that always happen? No, it does not but when reality sets in I know I have to train harder for the next race.
My short term goals are to be academically sound, a well disciplined dedicated runner, and a supportive team mate. I love the camaraderie that is present on a team. Running is special because you can have that camaraderie and still set your own personal goals. One way or the other, I hope to be at the state meets the next three years. Running is my game, winning is my passion.
