I feel fortunate to have first been introduced to men’s volleyball when I was in middle school living in Germany. The diverse international community, it was the perfect place to be introduced to the sport. To be perfectly honest starting out in 6th grade I never thought that I would one day love the sport enough to want to pursue it in college. Volleyball proved to be a unique match though, for my height and personality, and playing in Germany didn’t demand as much competition so I could focus on learning the ways of the game first. When I first moved to Arizona in the tenth grade, I didn’t think that I would get to play the sport again since my new high school didn’t have men’s volleyball at the time. Over the course of the year however, through the friendships and connections I made playing basketball, I was able to raise enough interest in other guys at my high school, to put forth a vote to start a volleyball team for us. Spring 18’ will be the second spring playing at my high school here, in addition to a fall season playing for a local club Fear, which helped me learn to be more assertive and forward in the sport while working closely as a team with guys from a diverse set of backgrounds all across the valley.
Now as a senior preparing for college, I am looking forward to the new opportunities that might await me in a new place wherever I may end up.
