Personal Statement
I am looking for a collegiate volleyball family to which I can dedicate the next chapter of my volleyball life.
2017-2018 My sophomore and junior year I was my club team’s (Pulse Athletics) starting setter. We earned Open Division bids both years. I was named the team captain and honored to be named Player of the Year by my club. I was also the starting setter at Servite High School, where we play in California’s Southern Section Division 1.
I have been playing volleyball since the fourth grade. I have been fortunate enough to be coached and mentored by great players such as Todd Rogers (USA Beach Volleyball Gold Medalist), Ryan Windisch (Long Beach State Libero), high school coach Matthew Marrujo (2017 30 under 30 Coaches of the Year), and Club Coach Daniel Hart (2018 30 under 30 Coaches of the Year), and my mother.
After playing volleyball my Freshman year, I decided to commit to volleyball as my sole sport. I have been a multi-sport athlete since I began playing baseball, basketball, and football. I also wrestled and played Lacrosse for a short time. I have enjoyed playing every sport as I worked hard helping my teams win championships through the positions of setter, pitcher, quarterback, and point guard to name a few.
Being able to focus on just one sport allowed me to develop my skills quickly where I had my hard work rewarded by advancing to Varsity my sophomore year. I assisted Servite to the 2nd round of CIF for 2017 and 2018. I also joined a Club (Pulse Athletics, Anaheim, CA) team for the first time my sophomore year which increased my skill level. In 2017 we were able to obtain an open bid (first time for Pulse Athletic Club) for the National Championship. The Pulse 17-1's team will again be representing our Club at the Jr. Olympics in the open division for 2018.
As a setter, I am quick on my feet and strive to manipulate the ball anywhere on the court. A heavy focus for me is the ability to always square up and with that, being able to look through the net. If I am able to have my shoulders square I can see the blockers on the opposing team and their movements. This helps a great deal when deciding which hitter is available with the highest probability of getting a kill.
Playing volleyball and giving 100% on the court is only part of my game. I understand the importance of leadership on and off the court which is why I am a captain for Pulse.
Off the court, I am part of our student government. I am proud to say that in 2016-2017 I was the youngest underclassman that our student government had ever accepted. I strive to maintain a high GPA and push myself to always produce the best work I can.
Being able to play in college has become a goal of mine and I see the impact it could not only have for me, but for my family as well.
I want to make my family proud and am looking for a college that shares my enthusiasm for working hard and winning.
