The Sport: I love to play volleyball. I have played since 7th grade. My sophmore year in high school, I played on the Union Mine HS varsity team. I have been on the Aspire Volleyball Folsom Calif competitive (comp) team for over two years. My first year in comp volleyball, my primary positon was middle. The second year I asked my coach if I could try outside and that has been my primary position going forward. I only move to middle depending on our opponents. I can also play back row. I take a leadership role on the court through helping players and providing positive feedback on ways to improve. I also have played beach volleyball over this last summer. Volleyball has had a positive impact on my life. It has made me more confidence in my day to day life. It has also taught me how to accept criticism and how to listen to others views and input so that I continually improve my game. As long as I am playing, I am happy.
Aspirations: Having a good education is very important to me. I am looking for a school that not only will be a good fit for me athletically as a volleyball player but also will provide me with the education and skills needed for the future. It is important that I have a balance with being a great player and working hard with my coaches to succeed.
What makes me a Good Candidate: I belieive that I have the talent and skills to compete for a college team. I am a team player who finds values in the lessons learned on and off the court. I want to be the best and the best way to do this is to continually learn new skills. I know that working as a team is what it takes to win the set. No matter what the score, I continue to play my best and be positive. I am verstitle in my playing skills with the ability to play in different positions and willing to play whichever position I am needed in. I am primarily right handed but have the abilitiy to hit with my left hand when needed. For me, volleyball has provided me with important lessons in perserverrance and selflessness. I believe that practice makes you better and you must work at it all year long which is why I left weights and do cardio in the off season. I work hard for the game and will provide the same and more in my college career.
