Caleb Byers '22 Recruiting Profile

I play varsity volleyball, basketball, and baseball. I was the captain on my basketball team and am currently the captain of my volleyball team, as well. I am active in Leadership at school, and I love helping organize school functions. This year I was selected by teachers and peers to be a leader in "Breaking Down the Walls", which is a program designed to build empathy for other students outside of their own peer groups. It's such an honor, because I truly believe we never know what others' go through on a day to day basis. It's an awesome opportunity to help the student body feel connected. Also, I am the co-"Fire Pit Leader" (our mascot is The Wildfires) for the Varsity Football team, where my job is to encourage the student section to cheer for and support our team, win or lose. I make it a priority to attend all games, and encourage the community to get involved with our tiny school. I admire the work ethic of players such as Dwayne Wade and Kobe Bryant. I also think former Baylor player Davion Mitchell is an exciting guard to watch. His hustle is incredible and I admire the amount of growth he achieved during his college career. We are lucky to have him here in the greater Sacramento area-Go Kings! My absolute favorite volleyball player is Yuji Nishida. His vertical is unbelievable!  Covid times brought challenges for so many, myself included. I'm grateful that it forced me out of my comfort zone. In the process, my study skills and G.P.A. have increased to the point I'm confident pursuing a career in engineering or the dental or medical field. I feel that I've become a more well rounded and flexible student-athlete, even if the process has been uncomfortable.
