Personal Statement
Playing a sport in college has always been a dream of mine. I just never dreamt it would be volleyball. From my childhood to my early teens, I played soccer, baseball, football, and basketball. I didn’t find my calling until my Freshman year when I tried out for my high school volleyball team. I have been in love with the game ever since! There is no greater feeling than bouncing a ball, watching one of your teammates do the same, or digging an unsavable ball. Having the opportunity to play at the highest level against the best players in the country, would be a dream come true.
I believe my coachability, versatility, and “clutch” characteristics position me to be an impact player at the collegiate level. From my early years, coaches have always said what a pleasure it is to have me on the team because I am coachable. I am a good listener, I am analytical, and I am able to quickly grasp and execute any play or strategy. As a first time football player I was able to claim a starting position on offense simply because of my ability to understand the playbook. I extended this to volleyball and quickly learned the game. Frequently jumping at the chance to demonstrate my versatility by learning as many positions as possible.has helped me understand the entirety of the game and allows me to leverage that experience to exploit weaknesses in the competition. For example, when I played baseball, I played every position at a high level. Now that I have turned my focus to volleyball, I have become adept as an outside hitter, middle blocker, and libero. I thrive on game determining situations. I have the ability to focus and execute in high stress game situations, for example, never missing a serve on game point, having the final kill, or game saving dig. Being a leader and trusting my teammates earned me the distinction of Team Captain, Offensive Player of the year, and All Tournament player on my JV Team. Additionally I have earned Scholar Athlete awards each of my years in high school. All of these attributes have contributed to my role as an impact player.
My desire is to be recruited by a Division I or II school because i want to play at the highest level of competition. My current interests for my major is finance/economics with the intent of becoming a global investor or investment banking. I am open to almost any location.
