Personal Statement
My name is Trevor, junior at Mater Dei High School. Most of my lifelong memories involve sports. From t-ball, swimming, tennis, basketball, flag football and most importantly volleyball. I had the benefit that my elementary school had sports from grades fifth through eighth. We played flag football in the fall, basketball in the winter and volleyball in the spring. That is where I first fell in love with volleyball. I used to play travel basketball but as my one’s teams got more competitive, my asthma prevented me from competing at that high level. I quickly shifted to club volleyball in seventh grade. The sport exemplifies teamwork, leadership, skill, and commitment.
Mater Dei is a college preparatory Diocesan Catholic high school, providing me the education and athletic skills to succeed as a collegiate player. It would be an HONOR to play at the college level. It’s not the NCAA level or the location but rather the team and coaches that I would be competing closely with during my 4 years at college that matters most. This sports family will support me in exceling as a player and to become a successful man in my adult career. I would reciprocate it back by giving the teammates and the program 200% of all of me. I feel the skills I continue to learn in volleyball transfer over to my academics and personal life resulting in becoming an ideal collegiate student-athlete. My mother played division II collegiate volleyball as a setter. She has shared with me so many wonderful stories. I hope to someday pass down similar stories to my children. Appreciate your time and consideration.
