Personal Statement
While volleyball is an amazing sport, for me, volleyball is more than just a sport. Volleyball has been a way for me to grow as a person. I have been playing club volleyball for the past three years and each year I have learned something new. Volleyball has taught me how to be a leader, even when things aren’t going your way. No matter what the score is, if a teammate looks at me and can sense that I refuse to give up, their attitude molds to mine. Volleyball has also taught me that being a teammate is way more than playing with someone, but instead it’s about actively pursuing a relationship with them, which results in us all playing together better as a team. My favorite part of being on a team is getting to know each other because I get to learn what makes my teammates tick, what will shut them down, what makes them push harder, what makes them dial it back, and what makes them give that last ounce of energy that they have. Another part of this sport that I love is no matter how good you are, there is always room for improvement. This doesn’t shut me down, instead it makes me push harder each time I am on the court because I want to be the best player that I possibly can be. I hate the feeling that I could have tried harder or left more out on the court, so I am always giving it my all no matter if it’s some random drill in practice, or the final match of the season. Every time I play, I fall in love with volleyball more, and I hope to have the opportunity to continue to take this passion for the game and my team to the next level.
