I appreciate the opportunity to convey to you what specifically makes me a good candidate for a volleyball team, and the reasons why I can make a difference and set myself apart from other recruits in character, athletics, and academics.
I would have to start with my leadership role with JROTC. This program molded me in ways I never thought possible. As a sophomore I was chosen to be the 1st Sergeant of my class. That position is all about leadership and leading by example. It was very difficult at times specially since all the cadets were older than me and I was a year or two younger. I had to earn their respect. Having that responsibility fined tuned my leadership skills and made me grow and project to others what my character is all about.
Those skills, without a doubt, transitioned me into the role of team captain for my school and club volleyball teams. Being in the position of helping a team into victory is absolutely priceless. One of the best feelings I can think of is having a person or a team look up to you. I loved being able to help my teammates and thankfully my academics, which were always in good standings, helped me grow and project to others the type of athlete I am and can continue to be.
My collegiate goals and aspirations will continue to grow as I make it a priority to show leadership to not only my teammates but also my fellow students. The pride that I will feel joining a college volleyball team will inspire me even more to lead in the court. I aspire to lead by example. I aspire to set my goals and share my experiences with the college that will give me the opportunity to do so. I am ready to continue to take on all these tasks for the success of my teammates, my school and myself.
