Personal Statement

What do you think you would add to a team?  What I think I would be able to add to a team is; outstanding leadership, constant communication, motivation, and hard work at every practice and or game.

Outside of talent - what do you have to offer a collegiate volleyball program?? I feel as if I offer a coachable and hard working attitude which is contagious to others. I want to represent a school in a respectable and honorable manner on and off the court. That includes working diligently in practices and in the classroom.

Give us an example of your competitiveness.  A great example of my competitiveness off the court is in the classroom. I take the most difficult classes offered and strive to maintain straight A’s. Although it is challenging, grades are something that you can only rely on yourself for, so if I want to see an improvement then I personally have to put in the hard work, when others might not, this is what separates me from everyone else. I’m willing to work hard when others are ready to give up.

What are you looking for in a college experience? I have grown up in a small town my entire life, so I am looking to go to a big school, preferably out of state. I’m excited to make new friends and learn about different backgrounds and cultures. I feel like college is the time to find your true self. The only person to graduate college on both sides of my family is my mom, so I’m excited to be a second generation college student and the first male to go to college.

What is your major/interest in study? As of right now, I was just accepted into our local college’s Criminal Justice program. This is a great foundation to my goal of pursuing law and or criminology.

What does it mean to be a good teammate? A great teammate is positive and full of energy. A great teammate is enthusiastic, regardless of the situation and strives to remain positive under any circumstance. A teammate is willing to accept feedback from the team and works to improve in everything possible. This also includes having a “We over Me” attitude, which ensures that the benefit of the team always comes before personal benefit. Being a teammate is not limited to being on the court, but strengthening the teams connection off the court as well.

As a player - What is your biggest strength/weakness? My biggest strengths are that I’m always vocal on the court and am always looking for feedback to constantly improve. Another one of my strengths would be my work ethic, I am willing to give everything I have every time I step on the court.  I would say a weaknesses of mine is that I strive for perfection when it is almost never possible, which leads to me getting in my head and affecting the way I play.

Why do you play volleyball? What does it mean to you? This is only my second year playing volleyball, but I have known for a long time this sport held a special place in my heart. Everyday after school I would race home and straight into my back yard to spend hours hitting my dirty almost flat ball against the side of my house. After doing this for almost 3 years consistently my mom finally let me join a club team, and my love for the sport never stopped growing. Not only was I able to play volleyball in a real gym, I made friends that I now call family playing a sport we all love. For the past year I have immersed myself in watching film, practicing, and learning as much as I can about this amazing sport, so that one day, the younger version of me that hit an old almost flat volleyball against a wall for hours, can say hard work really does pay off and that dream do come true.
