Yafet Rivera '16 Recruiting Profile

   As I have always been very fortunate in my life, with very hard work and dedication I have been able to become the person I have always admired.  Since I was little my unique, persistent and un-defeatable characteristic always define myself.  These characteristics have always accompanied me to help achieve all my dreams. Anywhere I go, besides being known for my tallness, I am known for my love and dedication to everything I set my mind to. I am truly a leader but not just inside the court,  also, outside. I establish a relationship with every single teammate, coach or parent relating to my sport. Volleyball is truly my aspiration or passion for all the opportunities it has given me.  Since I was a little kid I have always been very athletic, practicing three sports at times. For this,  I have always kept in mind as my idol, Muhhamed Ali, once said: "I hated every minute of training, but I said,  don't quit. Suffer now and live your life as a champion". This has made me be the best anywhere I go.  With my family being from very little resources I have used all my hard work to gain scholarships in my high school. For me, it is truly an honor to be able to help my mother by reducing my school tuition. I have been receiving full scholarships since I was a high school sophomore. To be given this type of help, for me is even more than recognition you have to be a complete athlete and student portraying all the necessary characteristics to be always a leader and example.  As I played volleyball many doors have opened, such as traveling representing my island, Puerto Rico, winning many championships, being player of the week and many more. Besides that, volleyball for me is much more than that, it is a symbol of sacrifice and dedication that resembles any type of hard work. With my young age I know that I can become anything I dream of,  my mind always has the attitude of a winner and that is what makes me truly unique. I can achieve anything I am given and will continue to complete all of my goals.
