Personal Statement
I first started playing Water Polo when I was 8 years old. I come from a family of water polo players and swimmers, and I was already playing multiple other sports, so it was something that I was interested in. Once I started playing I was not a natural. I wasn't the best swimmer or strongest kid so it took some time for me to work to get where I am today. The thing I am most proud of in my water polo career is that improvement. That commitment to improving my game and eventually becoming the team leader is my greatest accomplishment, and it is emblematic of my work ethic and desire to be the best I can possibly be.
What is important for me in a school is, first and foremost, academics. I am looking to attend a university that will prepare me for life after school and give me engaging and challenging coursework. As an Honors and AP Student with a 4.63 GPA, I have always prioritized academics and found education to be a central facet of my life. I am always searching for new information and challenges and I need to attend a school that will be able to provide that. What I am looking for in a program is a place where I will be able to contribute. I want to be an active part of the game and I want to go to a program where that can be the case.
So far in my high school career, I have been very successful at the varsity level as a player and a leader. I was named league MVP as a junior, had the 2nd highest scoring season in my school's history, and have been on multiple CIF-qualifying teams. What I am most proud of is my leadership and my mentality. I hate to lose, and so when the game gets tough, I just ramp my intensity up and work as hard as I possibly can to make sure that my team will win. As a captain, that also means making sure that all of my teammates are playing to the best of their abilities. I believe those qualities, my work ethic, intensity, and leadership are the most valuable things I can bring to any program.
