Personal Statement

Hi my name is Cole Jensen, and I have been playing water polo for about nine years.   I am the youngest of four boys and all of my older brothers played water polo, introduced me to the game, and taught me to love this sport with all of the challenges and achievements it brings.   Each brother set the bar higher for the next brother, and by doing that, they expected me to play Varsity as a Freshman.  I accepted that challenge and not only played varsity ball as a Freshman, but was a starting player that year and each subsequent season.  I was one of the leading scorers my Freshman year and have continued to be the leading team scorer for the past two seasons, in addition to team assists.  For the past two seasons, I was voted, by my coaches, to receive the MVP Award on the Varsity team, and I also received the First Team All League Award as a sophomore and junior.  I'm proud of those achievements, but my goal is to continue to become a better player, teammate, and mentor to others.  My collegiate goals and aspirations include pursuing a major in business/sports management and playing water polo for as long as I can.   I am looking for a school that can provide both pathways.  I am passionate about this sport and look for every opportunity to learn, which makes me "coachable".  When I am no longer eligible to play, I look forward to being a coach because I have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of this sport.  I am a good candidate for your team because I'm an experienced utility player, I am very good at defense, and a very crafty offensive player with a strong shot.  What makes me different from other recruits is I'm able to read the game very well, I'm a team leader, and academically, I am disciplined to maintain a good GPA while putting time toward my sport, church and community commitments.  My family and coaches will say that I have an easy-going personality, but that is an effective tool in an intense game like waterpolo.  I can maintain composure in tight games.  I have a strong work ethic and I am self-motivated.  These will make me an asset to any college team and coach that can give me the opportunity to play at the next level, and I look forward to accepting that challenge as well!
