Personal Statement
My name is Sean Bernard and I am a late bloomer. I have played sports all my life and for the majority of that time I have been smaller and weaker than my competition forcing me to play smarter and work harder. While being less physically developed than my competitors I was still able to excel because I was forced to focus on the technical aspects of the sport rather than having brute strength and size make me a threat in the water. I earned first team all league as a 5'9 120 pound junior who led his team in steals, drawn ejections, and was second in scoring with 74 goals. I helped lead my school to its first ever playoff appearance and its first ever playoff win. Going into my senior year 3 inches taller and 25 pounds heavier I feel I am able to play at a higher level as I continue to grow.
For the first three years of my high school career my teammates have voted me as captain. I believe that they have done this because I am a likable person who possesses a number of leadership qualities. I pride myself on being a mediator who is able to find common ground among all his teammates. In doing so I am able to keep the team focused on a common goal. The teams I have been on have always had great chemistry and I would like to think I play a part in that by organizing events where the entire team can get together and bond.
