Personal Statement
I am a 17-year-old boy whose dream is to play water polo at the college level in the USA and get a great education at the same time.
What sets me apart from many people who succeed in something is the fact that I am both an academic and a sportsman.
I have been academically sound since primary school and continue to be so. I am a hard worker. I have a GPA of 3.42 and take the following subjects: Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, English Home Language, Mathematics, AP Mathematics, and Afrikaans. I have achieved an A for each of these subjects apart from Afrikaans and AP Mathematics for which I got B's. I have also constantly been in the top 10 in my class each term and for the entire year since I began school, continuing into high school.
I started playing water polo at the age of 12 and fell in love with the sport. I have represented South Africa on two occasions namely in 2020 at the CANA ZONE games where our team won gold and in 2022 at the FINA u16 world championships in Greece. I have also represented Central Gauteng Water Polo at various tournaments such as IPT, and National Junior Curry Cup, and the men's Gauteng invitational on Multiple occasions. I have captained and vice-captained many of these sides which have found great success and have won several medals. I am also a part of my school's First Team and have been since Gr.9. We have had numerous top 4 finishes and have medaled twice getting 3rd place at the SACS tournament and most recently at the KES tournament where my team placed 2nd and I won a tournament MVP.
I am also a Provincial Swimmer and have represented my club and Gauteng at a National level at multiple Galas and Open Water Races. I have medalled countless times at Provincial and national galas and was ranked 3rd for all U15 for the 5km at Nationals. I am not as active of a swimmer because of my time commitment to water polo, however, this doesn't negate my swimming desire and ability once I begin training. I have very respectable times with a 22.19 in a 50-yard Freestyle and 51.83 in a 100-yard Freestyle.
