For the past four years, the Curtis Water Polo team has won 4 consecutive state titles. Having been a part of two of them I know the importance of hard work and dedication to the team in order to achieve the ultimate goal of winning a title. However, I have realized that there are other important factors that help a team gain success.
Ever since I have been a child I have always wanted to help others in the future. Each day I see both of my parents go off to work to help others since they work in the medical field. Their compassionate and caring for others personality has influenced my everyday. With these characteristics ingrained within me, I have always constantly tried to make others around me better in or out of the pool.
Especially in the pool as a leader and mentor for the younger players, I try my best to help them whether it is games or practice. I know that water polo can be an extremely difficult sport with all the swimming and skills needed to succeed making it all overwhelming to some less experienced players. I constantly talk during the games to help be another set of eyes letting the players know what is available around them in order to set up the team for success. I try to become the quarterback of the offense and the lineman of the defense telling people where the passing windows are, what play to run, or just communicating with each other on defense. I have strived to bring out the potential of individuals and be the best teammate possible looking to assist others more than score goals. Cause I believe that a team can only be stronger when others are willing to be selfless and put the effort in increasing the success of their own teammates
