Personal Statement
My name is Terri Monique Goklish, I am a 180 lb, 5'5 freshman in high school (class of 2023). I'm a hardworking optimistic softball player. I am an athlete that is truly dedicated to this sport and knows the game of softball. I am an enrolled member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe and live on the Fort Apache Reservation in Arizona. I am very proud to be an Apache. I am also very involved with my Apache tradition. I grew up around and taking part in our traditional ceremonies. I also had my own Sunrise Dance Ceremony ( Coming of Age) and because of these, I can happily say that my traditions has its played its part in my life and has helped me be the person I am. I am kind, humble, caring, optimistic, strong-minded and strong-welled.
I have been playing softball since I was seven years old (for the past eight years), with Little League and my school. I started by playing short stop in my first year of softball then in my second year, I started pitching an playing third base. Which are positions I grew to love and currently still play. At this time important highlights for me that I will include are; 12 strike-outs within a game while in 8th grade and now as a freshman, making the junior varsity team but also being pulled up to play with the varsity team.
When it comes to choosing a college, my options are very big. I am looking more at colleges within the western region of the states, which are Washington, Arizona, Montana and California but I am very open to going anywhere. I am open minded about colleges and hope to find one that is a good fit for me. Size and location does not matter, as long as I can receive a good education while being able to play the sport I love. I wish to major in Criminal Justice, however that may change throughout my high school career. Financial assistance is going to be very important to me in the college selection process, as my family will have a need.
My athletic goals are to continue to play softball at a higher competitive level and to make a positive impact (big or small) on the team. Also to set a good example to those after me.
