Giahna Owens '21 Recruiting Profile

In middle school, I started to play more sports during the off-season such as basketball and volleyball. These sports allowed me to work on my agility and hand-eye coordination which transferred to my skills in softball. I played basketball all 3 years and volleyball for only 1 year in eighth grade. But as middle school came to an end, I decided that I needed to start dedicating more of my time to softball. I did play volleyball fall of 2017, and I even thought about quitting softball because I thought there wasn't a good enough reason for me to play. But in the spring of 2018, I tried out for the softball team and made the varsity team as a freshman. I was later named team captain and that was the reassurance that I needed to continue to play. Since Freshman year, I have been team captain and the starting pitcher. In the summer before my Junior year, I made the Nuggets 18u team which went to nationals and proved me with such valuable experiences, but it wasn't the right fir for me. So I decided to leave and I tried out with Extreme Fastpitch which is now my team for the long term. All these experiences allow me to be a very hard-working athlete who loves to push herself to be the best. As a captain, I have learned teamwork skills, leadership, and self-discipline. My drive to the game, allows me to be very coachable and an extremely competitive athlete.
