Personal Statement

My name is Maya Guerrero and I am a class of 2021 student attending Watsonville High School in Watsonville, California.  My goal is to become a college athlete playing softball and am looking forward to a more competitive team than I have in travel ball.  I believe that the college education I would receive would be better to help me with my future career in Theatre Arts.  Becoming a student athlete would allow me to fulfill my goal of completing my major so that I can have success in my future career and to have to ability to also play the game that I love.  I believe that student athletes, like myself, have great qualities that allow you to succeed in life like working hard, teamwork, adapting to change, problem solving, among others.  I am also good at taking things from scratch, learning it fast and working my hardest to succeed at it.  Based on my qualities, I believe that I belong on a competitive college team so that I can get a better education and be on that field to play the game.

There are many strengths that I feel I hold that can be of asset to any team.  I put 100% effort on and off the field no matter what kind of a game I am having or how I feel for the sake of the team, I perform well under pressure, I have executed plays through tough challenges faced, I have a strong arm and I have thrown out and picked off many runners, I am a power hitter and hit gaps to gaps since many teams have underestimated me because of my size and don't know what I am capable of and I always talk it up with teammates and pick them up when they need it the most to encourage them that they can do it and get the job done.  I work just as hard off the field and have learned to balance and stay on top of my studies.  During times that I have struggled with a subject, I make it an effort to be proactive about attending tutorials, improving my scores and submitting extra credit.

I am a believer of earning my spot on the field with my hard work, execution and effort.  The type of coaching program that I am looking for is someone that will make you work for your play time, someone who is willing to provide feedback for constant improvement and someone that will treat all players equally and fairly.  I also want a coach that will be able and willing to give players a shot and move players around and feel comfortable that they will get the job done.
