My name is Maya Guerrero. I attend Watsonville High School in Watsonville, California and I will be graduating in 2021. I have been a student athlete since I was 7 years old playing softball, cheerleading and volleyball. My goal is to continue being a student athlete and play softball at the collegiate level. By doing so, I will be able to play the game that I love while pursuing my future career in Theatre Arts. Being a student athlete has allowed me to build strong qualities that most student athletes possess that allow you to succeed in life like working hard, teamwork, adapting to change, problem solving, among others.
Playing softball is my passion and there are many strengths I have that can benefit a team. I have primarily played as a catcher but I can also play third base and outfield. I have a strong arm, I am a power hitter, I perform well under pressure, I have executed plays when facing challenges, I am coachable, I put 100% effort on and off the field and I always talk it up with teammates especially when they need it the most. My secret weapon is my size. Most teams I have faced have underestimated me until they see what I am capable of.
I work just as hard off the field and have learned to balance and stay on top of my studies. During times that I have struggled with a subject, I make it an effort to be proactive about attending tutorials, improving my scores and submitting extra credit. I have also taken opportunities to help younger softball players improve their skills and I have volunteered as a coach for a youth cheer team for two years.
I am a believer of earning my spot on the field based on hard work, execution and effort. I would like to be part of a softball team where the coaching staff is motivating, encouraging, provides constructive criticism and great to work with.
