When I was five years old, the memory that had stuck with me the most would be when my dad was studying for the U.S Citizenship test. I would go to school, he would go to work, then we would both come home around 3:30ish and after dinner and he would be sitting there at the table looking at his cards that he had made for him to study for the test.
Looking at him and watching him study I would see how hard he put work in, and how he didn’t give up when studying for the test. After a while I would go off and play running back and forth through the kitchen and see he was taking a break from studying and I decided to ask “What are you writing on the cards?” and I noticed it was simple words like me, like, how , why and then he asked me “Mija como se dice nosotros?” and I looked at him like it is easy dad. I told him “You spell it W-E” He thanked me after but I saw after that how dedicated he was to passing the U.S citizenship test and how he put all of his hard work into passing the test. My dad didn’t just come over for no reason, he wanted to have a better life and he worked so hard on getting here.
While I was growing up, I soon realized that my dad, mom , and other family members are reliable, respectful, caring, and hardworking people and many other traits. I knew that all of these traits were going to stick with me as I went through life because they all impacted me very much.
I have faced many challenges going through life. Many of these challenges were always the same ones or other ones, but one would probably be with my school academics because I would fall behind in some classes, and sometimes it would be very overwhelming and frustrating and at times I wanted to give up so badly. Although my dad, mom, and even other family members wouldn’t have let me quit because they know I can be successful, and achieve many things in my life and they would be there to support me with anything I would need. I would be doing an assignment and I would be confused and I would ask them and they would sit there trying to explain everything the best they can, just so they could help me understand.
Another one of my challenges would be when I would be playing for the sport I love. I feel like that they would support me most because there would be times when I just want to quit the whole sport but they wouldn’t let me because they know my passion for the sport and how much I loved playing it and they would always push me to do better and become the best player and accomplish many things.
The impact of my family has shaped me into the person I am today. I know I am very heartwarming, hardworking, caring, respectful, and many other things and know I can overcome anything because of what I have been overcoming and what my family has supported me through and what they have taught me.
These family values continue to drive me on a daily basis. As the oldest of 5, I am driven to provide an example for my siblings. I will take all my parents have taught me combine it with my work strong worth ethic to drive my future success.
