Personal Statement
Playing sports has always been an important part of my life. My parents are high school coaches. Both of my older sisters were competitive softball players and I grew up watching them play. I can remember when I was 5 or 6 getting home from one of their tournaments and begging someone to go out in the yard and throw me some balls. As a high school student, I have played varsity basketball, volleyball and ran track, but softball remains my favorite sport. I have played in two state volleyball tournaments, been the point guard for my team in the regional basketball finals and qualified for state track in the hurdles, pole vault and relays. I have lettered in four sports, each season I have played since my freshman year. As a freshman and sophomore I decided to play volleyball over softball because the volleyball program was much more competitive than the softball program. I eventually realized how much I missed softball and that my skills could really help my high school team. As we have been rebuilding, wins have not always come easy, but I took on the challenge of helping turn around a struggling program and leading my less experienced team mates. Over my many seasons of softball I have learned to be a good teammate, how to manage my time, how to handle winning and losing with a positive attitude, and how to have a strong work ethic. I have had a lot of fun playing softball and made many great memories. I hope to continue that beyond high school.
Through three years of high school, I have taken challenging courses and kept a 4.0 grade average. I want to finish strong during my senior. I am taking twelve college credits and will work to keep my GPA. I definitely intend to get a bachelor’s degree. I am considering nursing, education, and sports science. I hope the classes I am taking this year will help me decide my college major. I believe I have strong leadership skills that I have built earning 12 varsity letters, being named all-conference, and being a team captain. I know I will give 100% effort to any softball program and would be a strong asset to the team.
