Ever since I was a little girl I was always creating. Whether it was with Play-Doh as a toddler or drawing as a teenager, art has always been a driving force in my life that inspires me to discover new techniques and provides focus. I am able to interpret a lot about others and myself through a pencil sketch. Drawing allows me to create characters, form ideas, and imagine the impossible.
The thought of creating has always motivated me. This was evident a few years back when I decided to teach myself to be a pitcher in the sport of Softball, much like I taught myself to draw. I read books, watched countless videos, practiced relentlessly, and still continue each day exploring ways to perfect my skills. While learning to pitch, I successfully created my own delivery and special technique that I use to this day. Being a softball pitcher shows me that I am able to create art in other ways. For example, I have the ability to create or change a game based on my choice of pitch location or alternating my arm speed, as well studying my opponents. I feel my self-motivation, attitude, and how I approach failure is key to my success both on and off the field.
I started playing competitive softball in 2014, and being a first time travel club player had its ups and downs. Girls were bigger, balls were hit hard, and was thrown into games with high expectations. Looking back, it was one of the best experiences to ever happen to me. The adversity drove my reaction to teach myself how to pitch. By next seasons start, I was the starting pitcher for my team and I haven't looked back. In my 3 years of pitching, I have won 2 State Championships and received various MVP medals. All of these achievements continue to drive and motivate me as well as encourage my team.
I am certain that my passion for both Softball and Art are stronger today as they continue to motivate me to discover new areas of myself and both fields of study. I have the utmost dedication to furthering my abilities at the college level. What my future holds is uncertain, as it is for anyone. However, I am confident that my self-motivation and commitment to continue to create will hold an imminent future that is full of success.
