Personal Statement
Claire was previously committed to Boston College (verbal in October 2017) and the head coach had recently resigned.
I started my softball career at the age of 5 because my father played baseball for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and my babysitter Jessie Stavola was the pitcher for UCONN's softball team. They taught me how to pitch to keep me active, but joining a team is what made me love the sport. Softball has taught me to work with others, learn from my shortcomings and appreciate my accomplishments. Connecticut does not have a lot of competition so I have to travel long distances to participate at a high level, but it has helped me grow as a person. While I have to miss homecoming and do my homework in the car, it is all worth it when I put my uniform on. This year I had to make the difficult decision to give up playing basketball because I want to face the strongest teams in the country, not just the Northeast.
I am looking for a medium size school with good academics and a commitment to community service. Although I live on the east coast, I am open to any opportunities nationally with the right coach and team. I am very strong in math and science and would like to explore majors in healthcare, environmental science or fitness.
