I started playing softball when I was five years old. I tampered with soccer, lacrosse, golf, gymnastics, cheerleading and basketball as well, but my heart has always belonged to softball. What I love about softball is the dynamics of the sport. Softball is not an individual sport. When you are up to bat, you are not batting for yourself, but to get on base and put your team in the best position to win. When in the field, you aren't making that out for yourself, but to get one step closer for the team to win. Whether my team is up by ten runs or down by ten runs, I'm the person who helps keep everyone up, so that people coming to watch mid-game have no clue who is winning or losing because of our body language and attitude. Teams start t lose games the second that they let things get into their head. Mental toughness is a huge aspect of softball and I never let anyting get into my head because as soon as I step on the field to warm up, whether I am on the bench or in the field, I am thinking of what I can do to put my team in the best position to win.
My goal when entering college is to play softball at a competitive level with a team who loves the game and strives to win. Along with playing softball, I want to use the mental toughness and never quit attitude that softball takes and insert it into my everyday life, while also pursuing a career in the medical field. One thing that makes me stand out from other individuals is that I am a student of the game. I know when I need to take risks and when not to. I also do not get rattled in tight game situations, but I get more determined to put my team in the best situation to win. During the summer going into my freshman year, my travel team won 11 single elimination games in the 14U USSSA World Series and came in 3rd out of over 80 teams. While my primary position is first base, I can also be used as a utility player at catcher, third, and short. Finally, as a multi-sport athlete (basketball), I am recognized as one of the most aggressive and fastest player on the field and/or court.
Academically, I am a straight A student and was awarded a partial scholarship to attend my high school due to my academic success. I have always been driven to succeed in sports, in the classroom, and in the community. As a Girl Scout of ten years, I have participated in countless events benefiting others. My dream is to play competitive softball at a school that understands what is takes to be a strong, mentally tough team, and I hope to make that dream a reality.
