Personal Statement
My name is Makaela Davis, c/o 2022. I was humbled to receive national recognition by Extra Innings Softball as one of the top 500 college softball prospects for the class of 2022 [#380] and was also ranked as the #103 catcher in the country.
I was honored to start my high school career by playing on our JV team as an 8th grader. I was elected as a JV Captain by my teammates as a freshman, in addition to being dual-rostered on our Varsity team. As a sophomore, I was a starter on our Varsity team, received the Breakout Player of the Year Award, and the honor of being named All-Academic Team & All-Region 2nd Team. As a Junior during the 2020 season, I continued to be a powerful contributor at the plate, securing the 4 spot in regular season and postseason - Our team secured the program's first Regional Championship, and I was very proud to be named to 1st Team All-Region and to 2nd Team All-State within a very competitive Region & Conference. I am grateful for what I continue to learn by being a part of my high school and travel teams, and for the leadership opportunities that each continue to provide.
I am not just a softball player, but an athlete who is fast between the base paths, studies the game to keep a high softball IQ, and who is capable and willing to play almost any position...Although, catcher is the position I love the most, followed by outfield. I am a right-handed power hitter, and can switch hit when needed.
I am also a dedicated student. While being a student athlete, I have maintained an unweighted GPA over 3.7 while taking honors and dual enrollment (early college) classes, and will continue to take advanced level courses throughout my high school career. I was inducted into the National Beta Club as a sophomore - My goal is to graduate with honors as a scholar athlete and as a member of not only Beta Club, but also the National Honor Society.
I am looking for a college where I can major in biology or pre-dental while playing on a competitive softball team. I have a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn and continuously improve my skills and level of play. I also enjoy helping others learn, and would contribute to the team in any way possible to build future players through camps and other venues - Currently, I provide catching instruction to the middle school catchers that will soon play on my high school's softball team, as a way to give back and build up our future players.
I am looking forward to attending a college regardless of division, conference, or size where I can contribute to the team on and off the field, and also achieve my academic goals.
