Shalyn Guthier '16 Recruiting Profile

My name is Shalyn Guthier and I am a two sport athlete at Hilo High School.  My two sports are girls basketball and softball.  I have been a starter for the both sports since my freshmen year. 

Up until the age of 12, basketball was my main sport.  When I was introduced to softball, I immediately loved the game and became infatuated with the game.  Being a determined individual has pushed me to working hard to make my game better.  I do workouts regularly on the field, and I also train with a batting coach once a week as well.

I have been the Team Captain for the past two years, and have showed my leadership to my teammates.  I have developed a very dedicated work ethic, and I have learned to give 100% at all times.  I am not afraid to work hard.  Not only am I an easy going individual and am very accommodating to different coaching styles, and I am a team player. I can play just about any position on the field.  As a freshmen, I played in the outfield, my sophomore year I played at 1st base.  In my junior year, the coach really needed a short stop, so I stepped up to the plate and played that position and also helped out with pitching a few times.  This year again, my coach asked me be the short stop, but for less challenging games he was able to allow me to play at 1st base.

I have been involved in the Special Olympics and Project Unified Project through my high school years. I have been a partner and helper with various functions sponsored by Special Olympics and participated as a Project Unified buddy.

I am looking for a school that will provide me new experiences, where I can achieve my highest potential both on the field and in the classroom.  My plan is to become an elementary educator, and to assist young children in becoming great adults.
