Aloha,
My name is Jadelyn “Jade” Retuta and I am a senior with the graduating class of 2023 at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawai'i. I am proud to say that I’m a dual sport athlete in softball and wrestling since the seventh grade. I fell in love with the sport of softball from the age of 4 when I first picked up my bat and glove and started my very first baseball season. I transitioned to softball at the age of 10. In softball, this sport has taught me discipline, work ethic, resilience and accountability. On the field as a centerfielder, I’ve grown to become a leader and take the initiative to expand my skill palette. Whether it be lifting, conditioning, or even taking extra fly balls, I am always ready and willing to put in the extra work and help my teammates around me get better, too, because I’ve learned as a leader you need to lead by example.
In addition to playing softball, I am also a wrestler. I started wrestling in the seventh grade and have since received awards from my coaches for being the "Most Improved" wrestler and also receiving the honorary "Coaches' Award". I have also received my school's "Green and White" award which is awarded to one female athlete who is self-motivated, and shows determination, perseverance, hustle, and grit.
Lastly, I am in Mid-Pacific Institute's Symphonic Wind Ensemble and have been in band since the seventh grade. I play the flute and am the first seat and have been selected to play in honor band for two years.
With softball, wrestling, band and the two school clubs that I am involved in (Sierra Club and Christian Athletes), I maintain my grades in my IB classes and make honor roll and president's list.
From when I was little, it was always a dream for me to play softball at the collegiate level. As much as I want to play college ball, I also want to focus on my academics and further my knowledge in science to major in the medical field and study biology, nursing or dermatology. Being involved in sports and band since seventh grade, I have learned to juggle my time and follow through on my commitments.
I am excited and ready to play competitively at the collegiate level and start my college journey!
