Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Aimee Wootton and I will graduate in 2013. It has always been one of my dreams to be given the opportunity to continue to play the sport I love, softball, at the next level. I not only enjoy the sport itself but every time I play I learn new things that I can relate back to my life. I have played softball since the summer of my third grade year.  Every year I learn new things about pitching and the mental game and consequently grow as a pitcher. I work hard at softball almost all year long. In the spring I play softball at WHS, in the summer I play in a league and tournaments, and during the off season I pitch and hit at least three days a week. I am always trying to find something to improve on. Every practice I give it my all so that I can improve individually and also help my team improve as well. To be honest, I have no idea what school I want to go to. I am open to any school that thinks I would be a good fit for them. I really enjoy being challenged academically. So far, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my high school career. I am leaning towards majoring in Biology, or Marine Biology if it is offered. I hope to get the opportunity to play at whatever college level I am qualified for. I am 5'7" tall, and at this point I am pitching at 57 miles per hour on average. I hope to improve upon that number as I continue to practice. I pitch a variety of pitches. Some are: fastball, screwball, curveball, back door curve, drop ball, downer, rise, knuckle change-up, and a drop change-up.

Everyone has told me, “your junior year is the year to shine”, and I am ready for it! Last year I pitched well replacing the old school record with my 182 strikeouts. I plan to break that record again this year. This winter I have worked extremely hard devoting my spare time to softball.  I have gained 3 mph hour during the winter and hope to add a few more by season.  I am also cross training by taking PE 3, weight lifting, all year long.  I have also had the chance to work with a hitting coach once a week and have seen major improvements.  As a third year varsity pitcher, 1st team all- conference pitcher last year, I am looking forward to leading my team to state for the first time in over ten years.
