Personal Statement
I have always had a mental image of what I want to do after high school, and I realize that that day is coming quickly. Finding a university that aligns with my academic and softball goals is a very high priority. I want my college journey to be one in which I can learn through education and the great sport of softball how to excel in both the learner and leader roles.
Softball has always played a major role in my life. Along the way this sport taught me so much. It taught me how to overcome adversity by staying “hungry” and determined. I was encouraged by this sport to believe in myself, but not to think that I could handle everything on my own. One lesson I have learned is that my mistakes do not define me. If you are on the field and make an error or strike out that does not prove anything about your game. If you continue to let that error affect you then that shows something about your character. In softball and in life, I have learned that you cannot let the past define you. You cannot allow the mistakes you have made in the past affect your future, or your game. Throughout my time of playing softball with my high school team, as well as my club team, I have had many occasions to learn from my mistakes. I look at them as opportunities to improve my skills personally and as a teammate, on and off the field.
Throughout high school, I have maintained a 3.9 GPA, along with playing softball, FCA, FFA, track, and being a varsity wrestling manager. Being involved in these activities, as well as others, has taught me how manage my time. Busyness has helped dramatically with keeping my eyes on what I what to get out of the college experience. I want to continue to grow in the classroom and on the field in ways that will shape me into becoming a successful adult.
