Personal Statement

Hi! My name is Alyssa Barker and I'm 17 soon to be 18 in June. I'm a senior at Western Hills High school in Frankfort Kentucky. Softball has been my life for just about 11 years now and I can't picture having so much spare time and not playing a game based around a yellow ball with red seams. I can't picture not meeting so many new people and not traveling all over. I can't picture not having so many different families outside my own. Creators of softball I thank you, where would all my time go and all my parents money go without you.:) 1. Height-5'5 Weight-180 Speed-Home to First 2.7 2.Accomplishments: 2008-2009 Franklin County All-County team 2009 District 41 All Tournament team 2009 Kentucky Prep Softball East All Star Junior team Participated in annual East-West Juniors and Seniors All-Star tournament at the University of Kentucky Named one amoung top twelve players to watch in Kentucky's Region 11 (based upon 2008 season) Selected in Spring 2009 by Kentucky NSA as one of six Central Kentucky athletes to instruct children in the Lexington recreational softball league attending an NSA sponsored summer clinic Teams: Western Hills High school 6-12 grade 2009 Bluegrass Falldogs 2009 Central KY Batcats 16u 2008 Central KY Batcats 16u 2007 Central KY Batcats 14u 3.I am currently a captain at my high school but have shown leadership for many years now. My coach pulled me aside this season to tell me he was proud of me because I was the first person he has really seen step up and be a leader. I will never think because I'm older I am better, I have been known to get along well with all players and am a team member everyone can look up to and come to for advice. I'm a real people person and have been a "coaches dream." I listen well but ask many questions. I know the game very well and also pick up on tips on how to teach it. I attend clinics as a staff member where I teach the mechanics of softball and I love to do that. Every coach I've ever had I have become very close to and someone they can look to as more than a player. They trust my skills and I absolutely trust theirs. 4.I would ideally like to attend college in Kentucky or nearby regions. 5.I'm not picky when it comes to big, small, division level, etc. 6. 7.Fine Arts! That's my second love after Softball. I would like to become a photographer and look for schools that have this as a major or even have a good program. I take pictures everyday of my life and I would like to continue that and learn everything I can to become successful in that area :) 8.Honestly, my main goal for playing in college is to just keep the fire and passion I have for softball. I've played practically my whole life and I would hate to quit now. And actually I don't see quitting it as an option for me. I strive for what I want and sometimes things don't always turn out ideally for me but I'll make the best of it always. I want to be on a team that becomes my family. I want to be on a team where I'm close to the coach like I have been with all my others. I want to be on a team where I have fun. So I'm on the search for just that. :)
