I was five years old the first time I stepped onto the field to play; but the field has always been home. Being at the ballpark everyday with my brothers and sister, I knew one day I would get my chance. After playing for one season, I was picked up by our local travel ball team, and that, as they say, sealed the deal. Through my early travel experiences, I was able to watch my mentor and idol, Griffin Joiner, as she played middle, high school, college, and now professional ball. All the while, forming dreams of my own: play middle school ball, make the high school team, and play under the lights, play in big tournaments... As a fifth grader, I made a starting spot on the middle school varsity team. As a seventh grader, I already made the high school varsity team, and led the team in stolen bases. This past summer, my travel ball team made a huge tour. We played in the Sparkler Jr., the World Fastpitch Championships in Kansas City, and ASA Nationals. After a disappointing result in Kansas, we turned it around and finished 7th at Nationals. Through hard work, my dreams are becoming my realities.
Off the field, I am a 4.0 student. I took high school algebra and College Prep courses as a 7th grader, andalso took the ACT, scoring a 21. This year, I will be taking high school Geometry. Academically, I want to study sports medicine or oncology. One day, when my softball career is over, I want to have a career helping people get through tough times.
I feel like my greatest asset is my tenacity and endurance. When things are tough, that's when I work my hardest to lift up both myself and my team. As an on and off the field leader, I am just as hard on myself and hold myself to a higher standard than others to set an example for my team mates and all those little girls in the stands, watching with stars in their eyes and dreams in their hearts, just like when I was out there.
I reach out and grab my dreams, and with every dream reached, I make new ones. I will play college ball... I will play for team USA... I will graduate from college with honors... But most importantly, I will never stop dreaming and reaching for the stars.
