My name is Haley Murphy and softball is and has been my passion for my entire life. I was surrounded by baseball and softball at an extremely young age and instantly became infatuated with it. I began playing organized softball as early as age 4. I picked it up quickly and and eagerly waited for my games each weekend. Early on, I was chosen to play with a higher age bracket, whether it be my town league, travel league, or high school team. Playing up with older girls, certainly pushed me to be my best, and allowed me to gain a lot of experience and meet multiple mentors along the way. I learned two very important things, that I still do to this day; I learned that "No one walks, everyone runs" and to be the first player on the field each and every inning. Regardless of how the game is going, I always try my best to keep my teammates spirits up. This sport has always been my outlet. That being said, I always make sure I take advantage of the time I have on the field and give 100% effort and focus. One of my fondest memories of softball was winning the homerun derby two years in a row. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to be starting pitcher for my High school's Varsity team as a freshman, as well as playing short stop and second base. When Covid-19 hit this year, and I learned that there would be no high school season, I was completely devastated, to say the least. Even though I was very upset that I did not get a sophomore season, I tried to make the most of the time given away from the field. During quarantine, I focused on working on my mechanics and trying to strengthen my weaknesses. When I finally got the opportunity to be on the field again, I honestly do not think the smile left my face for the rest of the day. It felt good to finally be on the field again. The feeling of being without softball only reinforced what I had already known; this sport is my future.
I am looking for a college that can accommodate my love and passion for softball as well as my majors, English, Journalism, Sports Management, and communications. Playing softball at the college level is something that I have always dreamed of, and I hope to make it a reality.
