Personal Statement

My name is Mirrah Wells. I am a Junior at Lincoln High School in Lake City, MN. I will be graduating in 2022. I would like to take an opportunity to allow you to get to know about me and my softball journey. Currently, I am interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

One skill that I have gained throughout high school is learning to overcome my fears. At the start of junior high, I would have considered myself to be a bit introverted. I have had some amazing experiences while being on my travel team including meeting new members of the teams from different schools. Each relationship has allowed me to grow just a little more. It has been exciting to be encouraged by plus cheered for by people other than my own family. Additionally, I have been involved in school and community activities including volunteer work, holding a part time job, softball and church. Through my participation in these activities I have learned that not everything is about me, but rather about the team and the things you accomplish as the team. An important lesson I've learned from my high school experiences is that not everything is as important as you might think it is or even as you make it. It is imperative to be a good teammate and in a very simple manner be yourself.

In my free time, I like to play softball. But when I am not playing softball or practicing, I like to play in the yard with my dogs. My strengths include being a good team leader, putting others before myself and being confident in who I am no matter what. An area I believe that I could improve would be not allowing myself to bring the team down.

My friends would describe me as considerate, easygoing, heartfelt, honest, brave and believable. When situations are presented I work hard to solve issues by myself; while making sure to boost the morale of others around me. I believe in myself. I am easy to talk to, very understanding and I care about what people have to say and how they feel.

One influential person in my life is my mom.  She has always supported me and I know she always will. She makes it her responsibility to drive me to a variety of tryouts, practices plus games to enable me to play softball all year and continue to do what I love. She assists in getting me pumped up so that I can pump everyone else up before a game or big tournament.

I have overcome challenges in my life. I have learned the importance of confidence in myself, dispelling thoughts that maybe I was not good enough to be in a particular situation. These events have helped me to believe in myself more, become more positive, and not be concerned what people think about me.

My career goal would be to become a Criminal Profiler. In order to achieve this career goal, I have to establish some short term goals and stick to them! I need to commit myself to pursuing this career and not just "think" I will. I need to continue to work hard, even when the going gets tough.  "Never Give Up!"
