Personal Statement
My name is Layne Ashley Turan. I played both Slowpitch and fastpitch softball for Coach Brittany Rogers at West Harrison High School where I was on the varsity team since my 7th grade year. Along with high school softball, I played competitive travelball year round. I also played soccer, and ran cross country.
I started playing travelball when I was 10 years old. I played for the OverDrive organization for almost six years under the coaching staff of Thomas Stanley and Alan Marsland. I was one of the five originals left on the 16u team until being pulled up to the 18U team as a 15 year old. After playing for Overdrive, I picked up with several teams when they needed a player.
I am a very dedicated teammate and player as well as student. I maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my high school career at West Harrison High School and also had one of the top 25 QPA averages in the class of 2019, marking me as a "Category 2 Hurricane". I graduated with High Honors. I currently play for Coach Long at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) where I continue to maintain the high academic standards I set for myself in high school, as well as continue to give 110% into my athletic career. My goal is to further my education as well as my softball career.
