Personal Statement
My family has always taught me to focus on my character first, believing that anything else I put my mind to will grow from there. I still believe it.
From the time I entered school, I have done my best. That effort directed toward academics made me able to be advanced past the 3rd grade (I went from 2nd to 4th, so I'm a year younger than most in my class) and be recognized as an honoree in the Duke Talent Identification Program among other honors. Athletically, the focus to be my best has taken me from the least experienced member of my old travel team (Tenacity Fastpitch) and helped me become someone my teammates turn to, on and off the field. That focus has also made me the starting shortstop and cleanup hitter on my high school team as a freshman, and the top offensive performer on the successful team as a sophomore.
Physically, I've faced the challenges of big growth in a short time, growing 15 inches in two years. Though not done growing, the strength and skills training I have devoted myself to is helping me catch up with my increasing length. Speed, power, and agility are on the rise and I feel great about where things are, not to mention where they are headed.
I push myself and surround myself with others who will push me when I don't feel like it. I'm looking for a college program that provides the right combination of academic rigor, competitive intensity, and support to help me be the best I can be while helping the program to be its best.
