Personal Statement
My name is Olivia Giles, and I am a 2025 outfielder, predominately centerfield, from St. Louis, Missouri. I have been playing softball since kindergarten. Over the years I have always been a multi-sport athlete, playing soccer, basketball, and softball. Recently, I have decided to focus on softball to help me pursue my goal of playing college softball. Playing softball has helped me become the strong leader I am today and has taught me many life lessons to help me become a leader. I plan to work hard to reach this goal.
When I started playing softball, I didn't know anything. As the years went on, I learned more about the game I now live for. For years, I was at the bottom of the batting order, but I have been working on my hitting to the point that I am now batting leadoff for my high school and select teams. I have not just reached that position, because of my hitting, but also my speed. I led both teams in stolen bases. Defensively, my speed allows me to cover a lot of ground in the outfield. Over the past few years, I have worked hard to improve my positioning and footwork, as well as my arm strength and accuracy to make me a complete outfielder. As a result, I am the starting centerfielder on both teams. These improvements won’t stop me from working to continue to improve in all aspects.
I am a 4.1 student, and I'm looking for a school that will continue to challenge me academically and athletically. While I am undecided for my major, I am currently exploring several options. I am looking for a team that has a strong sense of community and is supportive of each other, like my high school and select teams. Being a part of a team has helped me grow as a leader on and off the field. Currently at school, I am involved in student council as sophomore class president and have leadership roles in several clubs. I would like to continue this leadership on and off the field in college.
