Personal Statement
Hello coaches!
My name is Zoe Gotti, and I am currently a sophomore in high school. I have been playing softball since I was five years old. My love for the game elevated to another level at age 11, when my father suggested that I try out for my town’s travel team. I started to learn what true commitment to the sport, my team, my coaches and myself all meant by playing at a more competitive level. In an effort to constantly push myself, I have joined a club team this Fall to increase my skill set by playing at a higher level and preparing myself to transition into College softball.
I have learned so much through my years in the sport that translates over into my everyday life. Throughout my years of playing the game, I have learned humility., patience and mental strength by handling failures on the field. I have built upon my confidence through my successes in the game. All of these experiences on the field correlate to how I carry myself off the field.
My academics have always been important to me, but now I am really understanding just how essential it is to maintain a high GPA in my college pursuit. I plan on joining the National Honors Society in my Junior year of high school while continuing to make honor roll until I graduate. I am currently involved in the student council, as well as, our community service club. I have been an assistant coach to our town Middle School team, which has provided me a different perspective and love for the game. My hard work in high school is all geared towards me pursuing either a major in Physical Therapy or Sports Psychology.
To get to where I am today, I have had to overcome many obstacles through my softball years. I started playing competitive softball much later than most other girls in my town. I was behind the curve in many aspects such as general softball awareness, basic mechanics, and overall athletic abilities. I put in a vast amount of hard work and went from being the 13th girl on the bench in my first year of 12u, barely getting any playtime, to becoming my team’s starting middle infielder and solid #3 hitter by my first year of 14u travel ball. I do not have any plans to stop advancing my softball aptitude while continually raising my personal bar of success.
I have always watched baseball with my father, for as long as I can remember, but I didn’t start watching College Softball until I was 12 years old. I couldn’t get over the intensity and quickness of the game and I began to imagine myself in their cleats, on the field during those big games. About the same time, I started following Sierra Romero, who quickly became my favorite softball player. She isn’t the biggest or the tallest player, but her strong and confident presence was always palpable when she was between the lines. She embodies all that I strive to be while on the field, both personally and towards my teammates. Much like Sierra, I take pride in my positive mindset, coachability, sportsmanship and work ethic, all of which make me a great addition to the teams I have been on.
I am constantly looking to improve myself as an athlete, student, and person. I am excited to expand my softball knowledge, strengthen my skill set and continue to make a positive impact in the softball community!
