Personal Statement
My name is Raven Smith, I am a 17 year old rising Senior who attends Villa Victoria Academy, a small private school in Ewing, New Jersey. I have played softball at Villa since the 8 th grade but haven't started seriously playing since my freshman year at Hamilton Girls Softball Association (HGSA). When I first started playing I was on a team with girls older than me who have been playing a lot longer than I. In my opinion, this was a great help to me learn my favorite positions first and third base. The girls taught me how to play the game more competitively and made me a leader in my Villa Victoria softball Varsity years and Junior Varsity.
Other than being a leader in my schools softball team, I have also had many other opportunities to learn responsibility. I have been involved in the Ewing Girl Scouts troop 70633 for 14 years and Junior Statesman of America (JSA) for 4 years. J.S.A is a student-run debating group where students from the US, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands debate foreign and domestic policies. In the JSA Villa Victoria chapter, I am the treasurer and Secretary which means I must be responsible, organized and good with numbers. I have been select for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). I am very busy and I spend a lot of time at school but I also find time to play other sports such as soccer, tennis and basketball.
My goals during college is to obtain my Undergraduate degree in Biology with a Specialization in Pre-Veterinary Studies and attend Veterinary Medical School. Softball has helped me enhance my skills to stay focused and be a responsible leader which are important qualityies of have when becoming a Veterinarian.
Softball is so much more than a sport. It's a way to learn from others and have fun doing it. With the right trainers, coaches, and players anyone can learn to be responsible just as I am continuing to do. I would love to continue playing softball in college and one day teach others the skilled I have learned.
