I am Liberty Sheek. As a future, collegiate student-athlete, I am looking for the right school where I can earn a degree in kinesiology or psychology. At the same time putting my passion for softball to work with competitive, determined and hardworking team mates who are willing to push themselves and their team mates to full potential. I would like to maintain a good balance of God, Family, School and Softball in my life while attending college. The balance between those values are important to me and contribute to my success in the future.
The main thing that has set me apart from other athletes my age, is that I have the ability to be a Team Player AND a Team Leader - I know when to show leadership and when to be a team player. Off the field, I can be both a team leader and team player. For example, in school projects I can be the one to give each group member a job, or I will get a job assigned to me and I will get it done well and on time for the group’s sake. I guess you can say that I am consistently a ‘player’ or a ‘leader’ in my life. I push myself, and work hard at my role in any situation, whether sitting the bench while injured, working on projects or on the field leading my teammates. That being said another quality that sets me apart from other athletes is that I work hard. I tore my ACL October 31st 2020, to then have surgery November 5th 2020. In the following 6 months, my work ethic has earned me my place back on the field with my teammates and at 7 months I am able to work my way back to catching. My work ethic and my team player skills are what pushes me to make improvements on myself everyday and allow me to adapt to any situation. For me it's for the teams sake but also because I want to work hard.
My coach always says, “be the best competitor in the classroom, weight room, and on the field.” I agree with him completely to the point where I have adopted this quote and consistantly work to achieve being the best competitor everywhere I go. This phrase drives me to work hard in all aspects of my life. I will push hard every time I play and work hard for the benefit of the team, not just for my personal gain. I believe that anyone can work hard to improve their current status with a little bit of coaching and confidence.
